Has anyone heard any candidate for any public office mention concealed carry as part of his or her campaign?

Is this a potato that is just too hot for a candidate to grab?

Dave McSweeney was at a Lakemoor banquet hall meeting of the McHenry County Right to Carry Association several years ago. Was he just getting some "face" time, or is he actually a backer of concealed carry? How about Dee Beaubien? Where does she stand?

Is Jack Franks still supportive of concealed carry? He voted Yes with 64 other legislators in May 2011, when a good concealed-carry bill was considered. Backers pulled in when the Chicago Machine got to enough Cook County Dems to prevent passage. HB 0148 continues to gather dust in Springfield. Fifty-one Representatives are named as Sponsors, including Franks. What is Joe Rosner's stand on concealed carry?

The Bill has been stuck in the Rules Committee, which is chaired by Barbara Quinn Currie (D-25), whose office address is 1303 E. 53rd Street, Chicago, IL  60615. Phone: (773) 667-0550. She has served in the Illinois legislature since 1979 (that's 33 years) and is Majority Leader. (I wonder how often she thinks about the safety of her two children and four grandchildren. I wonder if she lets her grandchildren stroll around the neighborhood near her Hyde Park office during the day and evening or if she lets them play in Nichols Park without bodyguards.)

The Bill was approved for Consideration on February 6. Plans for the Third Reading and placing it on the Calendar were postponed on February 6. My guess is that defeat was looming on the near horizon and that sponsors pulled it back to keep from losing it and having to start over.

On March 30 it was re-referred to the Rules Committee, and there it sits.

Why should concealed carry pass in Illinois? It is explained in the four short words in the title of Prof. John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime. Of course, he means more legal guns, owned and carried by law-abiding citizens.
